The Balearic Islands Coastal Ocean Observing and Forecasting System (SOCIB) is a Unique Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) devoted to develop and apply innovative marine science and technology to ensure healthy oceans for a sustainable planet. It was founded in 2010 by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the Balearic Islands Regional Government, and is located at the ParcBit, Palma, Balearic Islands—located in the centre of the Western Mediterranean, a natural laboratory on a small scale and one of the ‘hotspots’ of biodiversity in the world’s oceans—.
